How to Unlock the Arsenal System

At Level 5, the Arsenal System will unlock for the Barbarian, granting them access to buffet depending on the different weapon types they are using. Upon reaching Level 15, the Barbarians will gain access to a short quest line called ‘Barbarian: Masters of Battle.’ This is listed as a Priority Quest and can be started by speaking to the Forgemaster Gerti in Ked Bardu. Upon completion of this quest chain, you will gain access to the technique slot. This will allow you to pick a Weapon Expertise that you will always gain the benefit from, regardless of whether or not you are using that weapon type.

Weapon Expertise

You can open up the Weapon Expertise menu by pressing Shift+C. This will show you the levels of your expertise. You can level these up by hitting enemies with each type of weapon. This is something that will happen passively over-time and is not anything you need to stress about. When leveling your character, prioritize weapons with higher DPS, since this is a substantially larger boost to your damage than the Expertise System early.

Technique Slot

The Technique Slot is a great source of power for the Barbarians. Which weapon you chose will greatly depend on your build and your current equipment. To provide an example of the thought process behind the much popular Whirlwind Barbarian, we will equip the Two-Handed Axe Expertise in order to gain additional damage against Vulnerable enemies. It is important to know that the Rank 10 bonus does not apply to the expertise in the Technique Slot. Using the Two-Handed Axe as our Technique, we should equip a Two-Handed Sword and use it for Whirlwind in order to benefit from the bleed. This allows us to take advantage of Damage to Bleeding Enemies, Damage Reduction from Bleeding Enemies, etc.
